Whoops, another novel.

Somehow I found myself joining a novel writing contest on a site I JUST JOINED on Saturday (today is Monday, for reference) to see who could write the most popular story by the end of March.
I'm out of my mind.

This is actually an old story, that I never wrote anywhere, just hashed out with my husband, out loud. I'm adding a few things to it, since it was more a character profile, than a fleshed out story. Gloriously Damaged, is the name. It's about a regular girl, and an android girl who is going to be trying to kill her. It's a Magical Girls story, like Eternal Platinum, only with the point of view of one of the baddies as well.

I'll post a link to it when I get it posted, for anyone who accidentally comes across my blog. Hi. Whoever you are!

Eternal, and a writing streak!

I just noticed last night (but was too tired to make a post) but I've passed ten pages on Eternal Platinum! I'm actually at 13 pages, not too sure when I actually hit the 10, probably over the weekend, but still, hooray! Also, that put me over the 10,000 words overall mark, yeah!!

Also, one of my goals is to write every day for a year, starting with smaller goals. First goal was to hit a week of writing at least 10 words a day. I hit that yesterday. Whoo hoo!

Not to mention, I entered my second short story contest, and one of my goals is to enter more of them, so that's awesome, self!

Little by little, I think I'll hit all of my goals. Some are big, some are small, but we all have to start somewhere. :)

Writing While In Pain

I've seen a lot of spoonie blogger posts in my time. I'm going to add another.
I've been (wrongly, I think) diagnosed with fibromyalgia. For those of you lucky enough to not know what that is, it's a chronic illness that makes you be in pain. All the time. It doesn't go away. It'll fade, especially if you take the right medication, but it doesn't go anywhere. You wake up in the night in pain. The weather affects if you're going outside or staying in bed. You'll probably not be able to work a regular job, if any at all.

My symptoms are not controllable by medication, some have actually made me worse.

For the life of a writer, this is ridiculous. My arms hurt, my shoulders hurt, lately my hands hurt all the time. We also live somewhere that -30*C was a reality last winter, and we're gearing up to head back in that direction tonight. My knuckles actually have begun to bruise for no reason. It's brutal, to say the least.

But I still chug on, because what else can you do? People call me fake, act like I'm exaggerating... I wonder if they would prefer me crying on the ground?? It's a weird way to live, always kind of wishing you could get one of those cyborg bodies that Sci Fi writers write about (not me, sorry folks, one of my gals is going to live my life without that sort of resolution, I'm awful) or that at least people would take you seriously. Especially doctors, but that's a rant for another day.

If my books ever take off, I'm totally giving first thanks to whatever medication ends up helping me write more. And caffeine, it is the best.

First contest, entered!

So after waiting around for someone to help me figure it out, I sent out my first short story contest entry!

993 words of TOTAL AWESOMENESS (overselling myself? Nah...) were sent to Havok and I got all jittery and hyper about it, so I stayed up another hour, despite submitting it around two in the morning.

We hear back if we're winners of this theme during the first week of February, so I've got it marked on my planner, and can't wait! Until then, I'll be entering more contests, working on my actual novel(s?) and trying to not go insane from joy every time I enter something. Ha!

I did it!

I wrote my first short story for a contest!

I'm still waiting on details as to how to ENTER said contest, since the details are a bit odd, but still, go me!

987 words for a contest with a word limit of 1000. Phew. It needs some editing buuut... It's almost 1:30am where I am, so it'll have to wait.

For anyone curious, the contest is by Havok and I've got fingers (and toes) crossed that by some miracle, I win with my first entry. Ha.

If not, it'll be going into my Wattpad short story anthology, that is still to be named. Either way, go me. 🤩

I'm alive!

I've been so sick since Christmas, and while that's not a great excuse, it's the one I have.

I'm still technically sick, but not so bad that I just want to sleep all day. Plus, as of tomorrow, my kiddo will be back to school, so that means I'll have a nice, quiet house for six hours of the day. Apart from whatever noise my dear hubby makes. Ha.

I've found my first short story contest that I'll be entering, I've set up a Wattpad account to store those stories on (and maybe post one of my novel stories that I want to get out there too) but have no clue how to link it yet, so that'll come later.

I'm a bit behind on the sites that I joined to try and write everyday with, but I think I can catch up.

So, yeah! Now everyone who reads this, is all caught up. 💖

Day Two

Sooooo I didn't get any writing done this day. I did find an AMAZING collection of short story contests, right here, as posted by Reedsy (who also have their own contest that pops up when you go to that link) which span all the way up to January 2020! From the look of it, they'll be adding more as the year goes by, so lots to look forward to.

I feel like I owe a small explanation for my lack of much else being done, so I'll come out with it, after doing errands, I got home and slept for five hours. Not exactly a normal thing to do, right? I've got a chronic illness, that puts me in pain nearly all the time, and thus drains my energy a lot, especially if I'm too active in a day. It's rough, but I'm making it through. It does mean that often, things have to be set aside for later.

Tomorrow is always another day, though.

Hello!

So, hey there!

Starlyn here, or Star, whichever you prefer. Here's a little spoiler, if you can't tell, it's a pen name. My husband and I decided to do a challenge together, try and write and see how well we do with a crowd, without telling anyone we know who our personas are.

I'm in my 30s, married (as I mentioned) to my also-a-writer husband, Wilder, as he goes by.

We have a kid, who is awesome, but definitely not at the writing novels stage yet. So we try to work around his schedule of playing and running and all the other things four year olds do. Hashtag WritingWhileParenting, am I right?

When I'm not wife-ing, parenting, or writing, I enjoy painting, baking, and most of all, sleeping.

On this blog, I'll be tracking what my writing stats are like (mostly to keep track of myself) but also tracking writing contests. For myself, and anyone else who would want to enter them. A bit of competition doesn't hurt now, does it? Especially if you think you're really good at it. I have a bit of an ego problem, so watch out. Heh.

Other than this post, don't expect too many personal details, too much chance of someone figuring us out this way! Definitely no pictures, unless I get letters from editors or publishers or something like that. Sorry, nosey people!

If anything I write or post on here amuses or helps you, feel free to send me a tip for coffee, on the side bar!
