Channillo!

I used to write on Channillo like, just about three years ago. Then I got overwhelmed by life, pain, and everything. So I dropped off the face of the writing world.

I've been having run on RoyalRoad, the people there are a good time, but I think it's time for me to take my show on the road. Ha. Pun. Ish.

Having an audience on there is cool, but oh boy, working for tips that don't materialize is kind of disheartening. Writing on a platform that guarantees that I get paid for views would be really really nice. Plus, as I recall, the community for it was really nice as well.

If I was still doing Fan Fiction (YES, I used to, oh my) then I'd be less sad about making $0, but this is all my personal work, my world building, my character creation, everything. Plus, I was a teenager back when I did that sort of writing. Maybe I'm being selfish, maybe the views and everything like that should be enough, but views and exposure don't help pay the bills, buy dinner, or entertain my kid so I can actually write. C'est la vie. Capitalism, what can ya do.

Wish me luck that they accept my application, and I can get back to it.

Typing and typing some more!

I've been sick all week, and continue to be so, but today was just one of those days where I wanted to write. All my main stories (see the stuff on the sidebar here) weren't looking too amazing for my foggy brain, so I checked for any short story contests with fun prompts.

Came across one with a prompt about a princess fighting a dragon who is hunting her, aaaaand wound up starting a story that's basically a Monster Hunter fan fiction. I loooove the game, and my character is basically a golden and pink princess anyway, so it made sense to do a self insert there. Says me.

Hoping I get over this rotten cold, so I can get back to writing all my other stuff, but hey, this contest has a $50 prize, and I'm not going to turn that down either!

Hooray for writing! Even while half comatose!

Eternal, and a writing streak!

I just noticed last night (but was too tired to make a post) but I've passed ten pages on Eternal Platinum! I'm actually at 13 pages, not too sure when I actually hit the 10, probably over the weekend, but still, hooray! Also, that put me over the 10,000 words overall mark, yeah!!

Also, one of my goals is to write every day for a year, starting with smaller goals. First goal was to hit a week of writing at least 10 words a day. I hit that yesterday. Whoo hoo!

Not to mention, I entered my second short story contest, and one of my goals is to enter more of them, so that's awesome, self!

Little by little, I think I'll hit all of my goals. Some are big, some are small, but we all have to start somewhere. :)

Wattpad story!

A few years ago, I wrote a story called Otter, based on a dream I had. I started to publish it on a site whose name I can't even remember. I got paid per view, but decided to let it roll over, I wanted to earn at least $10 before I cashed anything out. I hit about $4.75, before suddenly not only was my story missing, but my money as well. Shortly after, my whole profile was gone.

It actually caused me to stop writing for a while. Like, three years almost.

While digging through my Google Drive for something else, I found the story files again. The chapters that had been published, and a few more that were waiting to be queued. One chapter is entirely missing (I think I might have published it, and meant to save a copy, but never did) but since I'm editing the whole thing, I'm sure I'll be able to fill it in.

I'll be publishing it on Wattpad as Early, since Otter was never supposed to be her permanent name anyway. It was what she was called in a dream I had that inspired the whole thing. Eh. It happens.

I'm excited to be getting to do this! Since it's just in need of some edits, I'll still be working on my other story, which is tentatively being named Eternal for now. Whoo hoo. Getting all the things done. Just need to enter some more short story contests in the near future...

Writing While In Pain

I've seen a lot of spoonie blogger posts in my time. I'm going to add another.
I've been (wrongly, I think) diagnosed with fibromyalgia. For those of you lucky enough to not know what that is, it's a chronic illness that makes you be in pain. All the time. It doesn't go away. It'll fade, especially if you take the right medication, but it doesn't go anywhere. You wake up in the night in pain. The weather affects if you're going outside or staying in bed. You'll probably not be able to work a regular job, if any at all.

My symptoms are not controllable by medication, some have actually made me worse.

For the life of a writer, this is ridiculous. My arms hurt, my shoulders hurt, lately my hands hurt all the time. We also live somewhere that -30*C was a reality last winter, and we're gearing up to head back in that direction tonight. My knuckles actually have begun to bruise for no reason. It's brutal, to say the least.

But I still chug on, because what else can you do? People call me fake, act like I'm exaggerating... I wonder if they would prefer me crying on the ground?? It's a weird way to live, always kind of wishing you could get one of those cyborg bodies that Sci Fi writers write about (not me, sorry folks, one of my gals is going to live my life without that sort of resolution, I'm awful) or that at least people would take you seriously. Especially doctors, but that's a rant for another day.

If my books ever take off, I'm totally giving first thanks to whatever medication ends up helping me write more. And caffeine, it is the best.
